Philadelphia's Vision For A Greener City
Home » About

That’s the ambitious goal that Mayor Michael A. Nutter set for Philadelphia in his 2008 inaugural address.

To make good on his pledge, he created the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability. The Mayor’s Office of Sustainability spent a year researching municipal sustainability, talking with residents, and drafting Greenworks Philadelphia. The ambitious plan sets 15 sustainability targets in the areas of energy, environment, equity, economy, and engagement to make Philadelphia the greenest city in America by 2015. Halfway through that implementation timeline, we’ve completed or started work on 148 of 167, or 89% of the Greenworks initiatives. To learn more, please visit www.phila.gov/green.

Building energy benchmarking is a key next step in helping to achieve the goal, and repositioning Philadelphia as a city of the future.
